My Halloween Tablescape

For my Halloween tablescape I envisioned an “Enchanted Mansion.” I imagined my old-world candelabras featured center stage, and could picture the table set with spooky elegance.

Halloween Tablescape Goals

I had a few goals in mind when I first decided to create a Halloween Tablescape:

  1. It had to be inexpensive.
  2. I wanted it to be easy.
  3. The overall mood had to feel “MAGICAL.”

Create Halloween Tablescape magicG-Rated Halloween

I specifically choose to leave out anything too ghoulish since I don’t like skeletons, zombies, creepy crawlies or blood. I don’t pass judgement on those who go all out for Halloween ghoul, but it’s just not my cup of tea. If you’re like me there are plenty of ways to embrace Halloween fun and keep it G rated. For many years my Halloween decor actually looked just like fall. I stuck with pumpkins and had plenty of fun. Below are some of my absolute favorites for fall decor that I return to year after year because they never go out of style.

Because I knew I wanted to keep a tight lid on my budget I did what I often do, I began with what I had (hence the candelabras featured front and center). Inspiration started when I found this awesome, reusable paper table runner.

The Importance of Lighting in Your Halloween Tablescape

Halloween marks the official beginning of the holiday season. This is when lighting becomes a fundamental in decorating. Candles, both real and faux, are a key element in Halloween tablescape. In fact, lighting is a huge component for all my holiday decor.

Ever since I discovered them I’ve been using little wire “fairy lights” to achieve a special festive holiday feel. These versatile little wire light strings come out at Halloween, and I reuse them for Thanksgiving and Christmas and possibly a Winter Wonderland look as well. They add the wow factor to nearly any decor arrangement. For your convenience I have added some well-priced favorites below.

We believe decor should enhance life. That being said we don’t put pressure on ourselves if some years we just don’t have time. Sometimes decorating has to take a back seat to higher priorities. That’s real life. Sometimes we want to go all out but perimeters just don’t allow, and that’s okay. We go easy on ourselves, even we who LOVE to decorate more than any folks out there. Many times we must use what we have and make the best of it.

There is an ebb and flow in life. Some years we have more time and more money and other years we have less. The moral here is decorating should never add to the stress of life, only enhance living. Enjoy where you are, all the good and all the blessings.

And, also, you found the perfect music. About the black and white striped table runner – I went to the site you said had it but I didn’t see it. Didn’t you get it at a store in Snohomish? I live in Seattle and I could go there. I think I need this table runner.

      • jjdesigntwins says:

        Hi Carol,
Yes, the black and white table runner came from a boutique in Snohomish…a fun excuse to go visit…where I’m sure you’ll find more than just a table runner to bring home 🙂 The store is Bottorf’s & Co. and it is the first store you come to as you begin Front Street from the West end. Happy Shopping. XO ~ Julie

Patti! Wow! What a compliment! Speaking of Martha Stewart, this summer I was interviewed by “her people” and collaborated on a blog post on her site…all about decorating entryways! It was quite an honor 🙂 We are so glad you enjoyed the tablescape and the video. We had just a little bit of fun making that! haha! Blessings, Julie & Jodie

Great video, so well done. Such a fun, magical, spirited tablescape! Thanks for the inspiration, I can’t wait to start decorating this weekend. Do you mind sharing the album/artist name for the music? It’s the perfect touch…whimsical, fun, upbeat yet spooky, vs the howling, chain-rattling sound effects I’ve only found. Thank you! ????????

    • jjdesigntwins says:

      Irma,
Thank you so much for your sweet support! We are just delighted you enjoyed our video. I made the table and took the video but Jodie is the one who found the spooky music which played such an integral part in creating just the right mood. We apologize for the delay in getting back to you…we had to find the info. She found it on YouTube and it’s called “spooky ride” by Twin Musicom (as chance would have it 🙂 Thank you again for following our blog. We hope you continue to enjoy! Blessings, Julie & Jodie
